Morning Keynote Address: Why Engineered Systems?
Robert Freeman, Oracle Corporation
Oracle has a number of engineered systems including Exadata, Exalogic, Exalitics, and the Big Data Machine. Why do we care about them, talk about them so much, and what makes them “special”? This presentation will introduce you to the idea of engineered systems and explain the principles that make them the wave of the future. Using Exadata as an example, we will explore the benefits of engineered systems, and how they can be a true game changer in the Enterprise. The session also includes real-world examples of how engineered systems fundamentally changed the way customers looked at how they do business.
Afternoon Keynote Address: Thinking Clearly About Performance
Cary Millsap, Method-R Corporation
Creating high-performance as an attribute of complex software is extremely difficult business for developers, technology administrators, architects, system analysts, and project managers. However, by understanding some fundamental principles, performance problem-solving and prevention can be made far simpler and more reliable. This presentation describes those principles, covering the goals, the terms, the tools, and the decisions that you need to maximize your application’s chance of having a long, productive, high-performance life. Examples in this paper touch upon Oracle experiences, but are not restricted to Oracle products.
"Mastering Oracle Trace Data"

VOUG and HROUG will be joining several other regional user groups to co-host the East Coast Oracle Users Conference (ECO), October 17 & 18, at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel & Convention Center in Raleigh/Durham, NC. Last year this was one of the largest regional user group events on the east coast.
